You fell off the routine? I get it. When life gets busy, stressful, and your plate feels way more than full, fitness is often the first thing taken off the table.
But hear me out: When life gets tough, continuing strength training is one of the best things you can do for yourself and those around you. Why? The leading cause of death in the US is heart disease, largely driven by preventable factors like unhealthy diets, lack of physical activity, smoking/alcohol, etc. This means that through proper nutrition and training, we can manage the root causes of this disease.
Maybe the 90-minute session 5 times a week needs to become 30 minutes 2-3 times a week. Instead of giving up, Keep showing up and scale it back to where you're at. Maybe physique goals need to be paused, but for your physical and mental health, staying active is the best way to stay healthy long-term and show up for the people who love and need you.
We all have our reasons for starting. I started this journey because I was tired of feeling self-conscious, unhappy, and unhealthy. I was tired of feeling less than and just wanted to be someone I could be proud of. Somewhere in the journey, I fell in love with the process, the people and how I started to feel. But this did NOT happen over night, but over 10 years.Â
In the last 10 years, I’ve had many "failures." I never let those stop me from working for the life I wanted. I took them as learning lessons, showed myself grace, and continued to show up to the best of my abilities. I went to the gym after 12-hour workdays, woke up at 4AM for strength training, and packed healthy lunches. I knew showing up when I was tired was easier than starting over. And now, I am so proud of the person I’ve grown into.
I will preach for the rest of my days is that fitness can be so much more than just fitness. It’s your health, your longevity, your family, your self-respect. It’s building the person you want to show up as and being a role model to those around you.
